Ballina itself, located in the heart of the Northern Rivers Region, is believed to have been derived from the Aboriginal word ‘Bullinah’meaning ‘place of plenty or plenty to eat’ as it is centred on an island at the mouth of the Richmond River.
From the Manor you can enjoy a scenic stroll to the town centre or wander down the road to some of the most pristine beaches and waterways. The neighbouring Richmond River mouth, Shelly beach, Lighthouse beach, Angels beach and Shaw’s Bay can be reached by foot or for the more adventurous, a coastal walk or bike ride will take you to the laid back, seaside village of Lennox Head and the
natural tea-tree stained Lake Ainsworth. Along the way you can enjoy the elevated panoramic views over the Lennox Head township and beyond to Cape Byron from Pat Morton Lookout. This is a perfect place to watch pro surfers, hang gliders, migrating whales (in season) and to soak up the sunshine. The North Wall in Ballina is perfect for dolphin and pelican watching and to see the
spectacular sight of fishing trawlers cruising out for their evening catch. It’s even more breathtaking with one of Ballina’s glorious sunsets as a backdrop.
Located just 25km’s away and with its stunning natural attractions
and eclectic community, Byron Bay is one of the world’s most famous and unique coastal towns. You’ll be captivated by gorgeous beaches, breathtaking hinterland rainforest, spectacular coastal trails, amazing marine life and a buzzing food scene. We recommend visiting one of the most iconic landmarks in the Byron Shire, the Cape Byron Lighthouse. The 4km track also passes the most easterly point of the Australian mainland, which is the perfect location to spot dolphins and whales.
Bangalow is a warm northern NSW community best known for its vibrant main street where you can wander and investigate local art galleries, beautiful interior and clothing retailers along with fantastic restaurants and cafes. The weekly Farmers Market, from 8am every Saturday morning and the monthly Bangalow market held at the Bangalow Showground, on the last Sunday of each month, are not to be missed.
